Looking After Your Coast

Young People Create Motifs for the Coast

Designs based on Whitehavens' Past, Present and Future

IMG_19a

Young people from across Whitehaven worked with artist Paul Smith to create designs to be incorporated into the improvements  that will take place along the Whitehaven coast.  Members of Young Cumbria youth clubs and the Harbour Youth Project produced a set of images that represented some aspect of Whitehaven to them and these included local landmarks, wildlife, leisure, industry and history.  These designs will now be used in a number of different ways, they may be cast into bronze and incorporated into walls, pathways or seating.  They could be etched onto the new signs for the coast or used as direction markers. For the young people who designed them, they will be a permanent reminder of the part they played in helping the regeneration of Whitehaven.  To view the full set of designs click here and then select the 'Artwork' section.
