Looking After Your Coast

Saltom Works

What’s gone on at Saltom

digger_smallWork has been (almost) completed to make Saltom safe to access again.

The sea wall has been repaired, the cliff path re-instated and structural work has taken place on the winding engine house and the chimney stack at Saltom Pit.

The fences have been removed, and safety signs replaced with less intrusive signage.

New interpretation boards have been installed, together with steel artworks that continue the “memory walk” from the Candlestick.  A huge amount of research has been published on this website: click here to dig deeper into Saltom’s history.

There is still a little finishing off to do (extending the path to the information board, putting in drainage to stop rainwater eroding the path) but Saltom is once more free to explore again.
