Kite day takes off above the coast

kitesThis stage of the project saw us working with the obvious natural resource of the coastal strip - wind.

Over three days in July 2006 we worked with The National Trust and every pupil of Kells St. Mary's
and Kells Infants School.

In total we constructed 273 individually designed kites under the guidance of artist Rik Stack.

The pupils and their parents were then invited to attend a celebration and flying day.

The mass kite fly happened on Tuesday 25th July 2006.

Over one hundred and fifty attended the event drawn by the spectacle of over one hundred kites and free ice cream.

The celebration event gave the partners an ideal opportunity to engage with adults
who were not affiliated through a local group but had children attending the school.
This gave us an opportunity to publicise and discuss the wider programme.
